Pause on work for new Fort William hospital ‘catastrophic’

A replacement Belford Hospital has been more than 20 years in the waiting for locals

Plans to pause work on a new hospital in Fort William have been described as ‘catastrophic’.

The Belford Hospital in Lochaber was due to be replaced in 2028 due to increased pressure on its A&E department.

The Scottish Government’s advised all health boards to pause new capital projects, blaming funding cuts from Westminster.
