Parents say they have been left “dismayed and concerned” about new proposals from Edinburgh Council to stop cross boundary funding for children to attend private nurseries out with their council area.
Nursery owners say it could leave hundreds of children without funded spaces and risk the closure of more nurseries.
They’re warning the change would be a huge step away from what families need.
Council Leader Cammy Day said: “The reason these measures are being considered is because the Scottish Government has cut our budget for early years and childcare funding by £6m since 2022.
“This means we receive the third lowest rate of funding per child of any Council in Scotland.”
The Scottish Private Nurseries Association says they will consider legal action if the proposals go ahead and are urging the Scottish Government to intervene.
