Parent anger at council axing school bus services

Pupils who live less than three miles from school will have to walk along a busy road.

A parent has told STV News she is worried her daughter’s life could be “put in danger” when cuts to school bus services in South Lanarkshire come into force.

The changes mean that from next year children who live within three miles of their secondary school will need to walk or find their own transportation.

In some cases that means crossing motorway slip roads and walking alongside unlit 60mph roads.

South Lanarkshire Council refused to answer questions on the plans – and declined to walk one proposed route with STV News – they say where plans have been deemed safe, they’ll work with schools to review travel plans and consider any actions that could lessen the impact on families.
