Palliative care hospice service ‘at serious risk’ after funding cuts

The warning comes as the number of people predicted to need palliative care is set to increase.

An Edinburgh hospice is warning palliative and end-of-life care services are now at serious risk due to funding decisions made by the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership.

The warning comes after a 3% inflationary uplift in funding was reversed – the hospice is calling for this decision to be upturned and for a committment to a national review of hospice funding.

The facility predicts an increase in the number of people in Scotland requiring palliative care in the next 15 years.
