A “package of measures” from the UK Government will “block” P&O Ferries’ plan to replace 800 seafarers with agency workers paid below the minimum wage.
The company caused outrage after sacking its crews with no notice on the 17th of March. The P&O chief executive Peter Hebblethwaite, whose basic annual salary is £325,000, told MPs last week the average pay of the agency crew is just £5.50 per hour – below the minimum wage. Olly Dickinson reports.
