The council are keen to explore any path which could benefit the islands

Orkney Islands Council has passed a motion which agrees to explore all ways of improving island life, including loosening ties with the UK.

In a debate this morning councillors shared frustrations over the islands’ ferry service and discussed claims of unfair funding.

The motion will look at ways to make the islands more prosperous – including re-joining Norway or becoming a British overseas territory.
