One in six patients unable to be discharged due to lack of support

It means there's a lack of beds available on the wards for new patients - a major contributor to the latest monthly A&E figures

One in six patients in Scotland’s hospitals no longer has a medical need to be there – but can’t get out because of a lack of support to go home or into the care system.

These are patients who want to be discharged and who feel uncomfortable about taking up a hospital bed in these times of pressure for the health service.

Waiting times, published today, are the worst they have ever been.
