Number of children in poverty in Scotland rises to 200,000

The Scottish Government says £3 billion is spent every year to alleviate poverty

By any measure, they’re figures which make for grim reading.

More than 200,000 children are now living in poverty in Scotland, an increase of 30,000 on the year before.

Campaigners say the Scottish Government must do more to meet poverty reduction targets.

It comes as foodbanks across the North-East say the numbers are unsurprising following an increased demand for their services.
