Number of ambulances waiting outside hospitals rises, review finds

The target time, from handing over patients to departing, is 40 minutes.

The sight of ambulances queued up outside A&E departments because there is no space for patients to be admitted is the biggest challenge facing the service in Scotland – according to the people who run it.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has told an annual review it is working together with hospitals to manage the problem, but the figures for the year so far are getting worse.
