Nicola Sturgeon supports calls for buffer zones to prevent protests outside abortion clinics

Protesters were told to to take their placards to parliament, not outside hospitals and clinics.

The First Minister says she strongly supports calls for buffer zones to prevent protests outside abortion clinics and will personally chair an emergency summit on the issue. In response to questions in the wake of a demonstration in Glasgow, Nicola Sturgeon said such action is “deeply wrong “as it targets women not lawmakers.

The Scottish Government is actively considering how to introduce buffer zones in a way that would not be open to legal challenge. Protesters were told to to take their placards to parliament, not outside hospitals and clinics.
