New legislation to define dog theft introduced to Holyrood

The offence is currently treated the same as the theft of a bike or a phone

The theft of a beloved pet dog is both traumatising for the owner and the animal.

And it’s a growing problem.

But now, a change in legislation is being introduced at the Scottish Parliament which would see stealing a dog become a specific crime with greater penalties.
