Motoring group urges chancellor not to increase fuel duty

It comes as Rachel Reeves prepares to deliver her first budget in October, with many fearing the 5p fuel duty cut may be dropped.

One of the country’s largest motoring groups has called on the chancellor not to increase fuel duty, despite petrol prices falling to a three-year low.

The cost of filling up on the forecourts has dropped in recent months, thanks in part to falling oil prices.

A 5p cut to fuel duty was announced two years ago and it’s widely expected the chancellor will reverse that decision in the budget at the end of October.
