Mother feels ‘vindicated’ after fighting for hotel fire inquiry

A sheriff says precautions could reasonably have been taken that might have prevented their deaths

The mother of a man who died alongside his partner in the Cameron House fire says she feels fully vindicated in having fought for a public inquiry.

That inquiry has found a number of defects in working practices contributed to the blaze which claimed Simon Midgley and Richard Dyson’s lives in 2017.

The Scottish Government is now being asked to consider the installation of sprinkler systems as a requirement for historic buildings now used as hotels.
