Members of the public have been queuing to pay their respects to the Queen

In the sunshine of the Meadows they stood in the line.

There was a real sense this was an important moment in history.

We witnessed history in the making when the coffin, carrying Britain’s longest serving monarch, made its way slowly up the Royal Mile to St Giles Cathedral with King Charles the Third and other members of the Royal family, just behind on foot.

A sombre procession. Almost silent except for the Gun Salutes from Edinburgh Castle.

The crowds simply taking in the enormity of the occasion.

Members of the public will be able to view the Queen’s coffin to pay their last respects, to a monarch who dedicated her life to serving others.

Our Chief Reporter Sharon Frew spent the day with those who spent hours queuing.
