A man who battered and strangled his new girlfriend weeks after being granted bail has been jailed for 23 years.
The court heard the crime was “beyond sadistic”. McGowan burned Claire with a lighter and forced a wet wipe down her throat.
He was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 23 years.
