Man has rape conviction overturned due to ‘insufficient evidence’

Campaigners say the entire process has been a shambles

When a man was given a community payback order earlier this year after being found guilty of raping a 13-year-old girl in a Midlothian park it caused a very public outcry about sentencing.

However today that same man, twenty two year old Sean Hogg, had his conviction overturned.

Appeal judges told Hogg there had been ‘insufficient evidence’ against him during the trial in April.

Prosecutors confirmed they will not be seeking a new trial.
