A community craft project in Perth is giving new life to a long-lost textile in a challenge to the fast-fashion industry.
Volunteers have grown and processed flax in much the same way it was used in Tayside hundreds of years ago.
The project started a year ago in a community garden, inspired by Perth’s UNESCO City of Craft designation.
Flax once grew in abundance in the region, but it production faded due to cheaper imports at the time.
The project hopes to make a garment from fibres grown within two square miles of the city, making a ‘slow’ fashion statement in a fast-paced world.
