Lifespan of Scotland’s last nuclear power station extended

Operator EDF said Torness will keep producing electricity for an extra two years.

Scotland’s last remaining nuclear power station will stay open longer than previously planned.

Torness in East Lothian was meant to be retired six years ago when it reached 30, but now, it will keep producing electricity for an extra two years until March 2030.

The decision comes after a report found the UK would need its nuclear fleet to meet Labour’s goal of decarbonising by 2030.
