Leaked data shows no fire engines on 200 miles of NC500

Highland councillors say they'll raise the issues in talks with senior fire officers in a fortnight's time

Campaigners say shortages in fire cover in the far north need to be urgently addressed.

Leaked data suggests there was no fire engine available at coastal stations on a 200 mile stretch of the North Coast 500 route during one day in the summer, with only one available on another occasion.

Scottish firefighters last week took their complaints about underfunding and staff cuts to Holyrood.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service says it “continuously reviews resources” to ensure it attends every emergency.
