Lack of poverty action costing economy £2.5bn a year

Campaigners say only bold and long term measures can make a significant difference

Scotland is paying the price for dealing with the impact of poverty rather than doing more to prevent it in the first place.

That’s according to a major piece of research which also highlights the life-long effect growing up with it can have.

The report, published by a number of charities, says the lack of action to eradicate poverty is costing the country around £2.5 billion every year.
