Labour calls for windfall tax to be backdated to January

Starmer also called for the energy price rise to be scrapped

Labour’s called for oil and gas firms to pay more as the party set out its plans to help with rising energy bills.

Leader, Sir Keir Starmer said the windfall tax, announced in May should be backdated to January and there should be a freeze on the energy price cap.

But the industry says Labour’s plans would put off investment in the North Sea and the sector already pays a lot in tax.
