John Swinney to step down as deputy First Minister

He is Scotland's longest serving elected parliamentarian, first elected to Westminster in 1997

John Swinney is stepping down as Scotland’s deputy First Minister. He will go at the same time as Nicola Sturgeon quits as First Minister, saying it is the logical thing to do.

Nicola Sturgeon said he had been the rock in the SNP Government since 2007.
