Investigation launched after Chinese tourist dies in Highland village

The 63-year-old is thought to have died following an altercation in Strathpeffer on Monday evening.

Police are continuing to investigate the death of a Chinese tourist in Strathpeffer, who may have died following an altercation.

Initially it was said the death was being treated as a medical matter, but police later issued an appeal for witnesses after establishing the the 63-year-old may have been involved in a confrontation in the centre of the village.

The unidentified man was staying in a local hotel in the scenic village, which is hugely popular with tourists, not least for its architecture and its clan history.

The incident has been reported to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, who say a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course.
