Infected Blood Inquiry releases report on ‘day of shame’

Around 3,000 people in Scotland were infected with HIV and hepatitis C from NHS blood products.

Thousands of people had their lives destroyed after receiving infected blood in a treatment disaster that has been described as “no accident”.

The infected blood inquiry’s final report documents a “catalogue of failures” which had “catastrophic” consequences for patients and their families.

Sir Brian Langstaff’s report accuses successive governments and the NHS of repeatedly failing patients and trying to cover up what happened.

The Prime Minister has issued an apology and said it’s a “day of shame”.
