Independent refugee commission visits Glasgow

The commissioners come from a variety of backgrounds and say they are here to listen

As MPs debate the latest stage of the illegal migration bill, members of an independent commission on refugees are in Glasgow as part of efforts to find practical solutions to fix a broken asylum system.

The panel heard from those seeking to stay in Scotland who say living in limbo for a decision is devastating their mental health.

A lack of access to education, not having the right to work and poor housing support were also among the concerns shared with the commission.
