Humza Yousaf’s time in the top job has been difficult from the start.
The leadership contest was brutal, with fellow candidate Kate Forbes delivering the damning line that when Yousaf was justice secretary the police were stretched to breaking point and as health secretary, Scotland had the longest NHS waiting lists.
She questioned whether things would be any better with him as First Minister.
The reality was it didn’t get any better.
His poll ratings are poor and there were 12 council by-elections during his tenure, which the SNP didn’t win one.
And there was the terrible result in the Rutherglen by-election, which saw Labour achieve their biggest ever swing against the SNP.
