Humza Yousaf is elected as First Minister of Scotland

This moment marks a generational shift for the SNP

A defining moment – Scotland’s New First Minister. The youngest, and the first from an ethnic minority background.

Humza Yousaf pledged to argue tirelessly for independence, after being voted into the top job by MSPs this afternoon.

Just hours earlier, Nicola Sturgeon resigned her reign, with a letter to the King, and quit Bute House for the last time.

Tonight, he’s appointing his cabinet–but Kate Forbes won’t be a part of his top team.

Tomorrow, the formalities will conclude with a swearing in at the Court of Session, then the business of government will begin.
