The downgrading of maternity services at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin forced many women to give birth in Aberdeen or Inverness.
Staffing at the maternity unit has now reached 80% and the first elective C-sections have been carried out there in six years.
But there are concerns that there’s still work to be done to get the service back to full capability, amid a financial crisis within NHS Grampian.
