Homeless deaths double in Scotland in the past five years

More than half of those who lost their lives were under the age of 45

An estimated 250 people died while homeless in Scotland last year. That’s double the number recorded when these figures were first published five years ago.

These are the sobering findings from the National Records of Scotland today.

Campaigners say more social housing is desperately needed, to get people out of unsuitable temporary accommodation.
