Holyrood urges parents to check eligibity for baby support payments

People who're on benefits or get tax credits can apply for the Pregnancy and Baby payment

With inflation remaining high families are now forking out nearly 40% more for baby products than they were last year.

Now, the Scottish Government is urging expectant new parents to see if they’re eligible for a payment to help with the costs of having a baby.

It’s just over £700 for their first child, and 353 pounds for subsequent births. The Social Justice Secretary insists uptake for the payment is high, but STV News has met some new parents who say applying needs to be made easier.
