Holyrood committee hears evidence over missed cancer targets

The health committee was told the NHS workforce dealing with cancer 'isn't what it needs to be'

It has been twelve years since a key waiting time target for cancer patients was last met in Scotland.

On Tuesday, a Holyrood committee heard this was down to a lack of resources, equipment and staffing.

Treatment is supposed to begin within sixty-two days of someone being referred with a suspicion of cancer – but that is not happening in almost 30% of cases.
