Highland tourist tax seems likely as legislation drafted

But many tourism operators oppose the idea

A new tax on tourism now seems inevitable in the Highlands, a region that’s dependent on the sector.

Legislation is being drafted at Holyrood that could see such a levy introduced possibly as early as next summer.

Highland Council argue the extra income would mitigate the impact of growing tourist numbers on the area.
