Health Secretary does not rule out extradition for Eljamel

An internal review published last week criticised NHS Tayside for initially placing Eljamel under indirect supervision rather than suspending him

A disgraced surgeon who harmed patients in his care could be extradited back to Scotland.

Professor Sam Eljamel was suspended from NHS Tayside in 2013 and is now thought to be in Libya.

The Health Secretary Michael Matheson will set out plans for an investigation tomorrow after ‘serious concerns’ were raised in an internal review.

He said extradition could be used, depending on a police investigation.
