Glasgow has taken over after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew as hosts because of escalating costs.
The money for Glasgow has come from various sources and there have been assurances that no public money will be used.
The 2026 Games will not be on the same scale as the successful games of 2014.
But the commitment to stage the games is being seen as a lifeline for the future of the event.
