Gender Recognition Reform Bill passes first vote at Holyrood

Campaigners from both sides also made their voices heard outside the Parliament

Divisive legislation to make it quicker for transgender people to have their gender recognised, as well as lowering the age to 16, has passed its first hurdle at Holyrood.

But the debate didn’t come without its casualties.

The Community Safety minister Ash Regan resigned from the Scottish Government just before the debate began, saying she couldn’t support it.
