Funeral plan collapse: ‘Furious, let down and worried for the future’

Insurers pulled the plug on a funeral planning policy customers had paid into for decades.

Furious, let down and worried for the future – that’s how thousands of credit union members say they feel after insurers pulled the plug on a funeral planning policy they had paid into for decades.

The Family Protection Plan was created in 1999 and sold via credit unions across the UK.

However, when policy underwriter Maiden Life announced it would leave the UK market, the insurers announced the termination of the policy, meaning that any death from December 1 onwards will no longer be covered.
