The summer of discontent is spreading. In Edinburgh, cleansing workers walked out this morning, bins aren’t being emptied. Workers at other councils will join that action next week. Scotland’s rail network also ground to a halt, as signallers took strike action again.
Care workers, teachers, nurses, contractors at Grangemouth – even coffin makers are planning action in the weeks and months ahead. But one deal has been done. At state-owned Prestwick Airport, industrial action is off. Workers there are getting 6.5%.
