Fornethy survivor accuses male staff member of sexual assault

Violet Duffy was the first Fornethy House pupil to go to police with allegations of physical and mental abuse.

Viewers may find some details in this report distressing.

Tonight we hear from one of the Fornethy House survivors – who says she was sexually assaulted by a male member of staff while at the school, when she was just eleven years old.

Violet Duffy was sent to the residential school in 1970 – and says that in addition to physical abuse from teachers, she was attacked just 24 hours before she was due to return home.

We can reveal the man was being investigated by Police – but died before charges could be brought.

And tonight – officers say there could be many more victims who have yet to come forward.
