Former UK civil service head apologises for chickenpox party Covid suggestion

Tomorrow the Inquiry will hear from former Home Secretary Dame Priti Patel

The former head of the UK Government civil service has apologised for suggesting chicken pox-style parties could be held during the early phase of the coronavirus pandemic.

Lord Mark Sedwill told the UK Covid-19 Inquiry he was looking at ways of managing the virus and protecting the most vulnerable.

Lord Sedwill also said he was aware at the time that coronavirus was a far more serious disease than chicken pox.
