Former Health secretary Jeane Freeman says she will “regret ” for the rest of her life any deaths in Scotland’s care homes during the pandemic.
Speaking at the UK Covid 19 inquiry in Edinburgh today, she defended the decision to transfer thousands of untested hospital patients into care homes in March 2020, saying she had “no alternative.”
The inquiry previously heard care homes faced “undeniable” pressure to accept untested and positive patients to help out the NHS and clear beds.
One woman, whose mum died from Covid in a care home shortly after hospital patients were admitted, says older people were “sacrificed.”
