A former police officer has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for trying to kill his ex-partner and her mother by deliberately driving through the window of a funeral home.

William McBurnie, 57, was jailed today at the High Court in Livingston after earlier admitting attempted murder over the incident in Jedburgh in December 2022.

In a statement, his former partner Zoe Turnbull described McBurnie as the Jekyll and Hyde of Jedburgh – charming in public but dangerous behind the scenes.
