Former Holyrood presiding officer Sir George Reid dies aged 86

The former presiding officer of the Scottish Parliament Sir George Reid has died aged 86.

He was diagnosed with kidney cancer in June and passed away on Tuesday morning.

His wide-ranging career spanned not only politics but his time as a presenter on STV.

Tributes have been paid to him on Wednesday, including from First Minister John Swinney who said Scotland “is richer for the life of George Reid, and poorer for his passing”.
