Fisherman issue warning over marine protection area plans

Ministers insist they are listening to the views of those affected and the areas will not be imposed

It will tear communities apart. Fishermen are warning the Scottish Government’s plans to introduce Highly Protected Marine Areas is threatening their way of life.

The proposals would see fishing banned in some areas by 2026 to protect stocks and help tackle the climate emergency.

However fishermen claim the Scottish Government is not engaging with communities.
