Firefighters receive royal recognition after battling Union Street fire

King Charles met with the firefighters and other frontline workers at Dumfries House in Cumnock

Firefighters, who were part of the emergency response to a huge blaze in Glasgow City Centre last month, have been personally thanked by King Charles at a reception for frontline workers at Dumfries House, on Wednesday.

The 19th-century building on Union Street was destroyed by the blaze but firefighters managed to contain it and save neighbouring Central Station.

The King also met with local schoolchildren to hear about a project helping them create and care for their own school garden, and was presented with a Blue Peter Green badge, in recognition of his work to protect nature and the environment.
