Fatal accident inquiry begins after toddler killed by 91-year-old driver

Age Scotland say all older drivers should take steps to assess their safety on the roads

A fatal accident inquiry into the death of a toddler hit by an elderly driver in Edinburgh will question if enough safeguards are in place when older people are renewing their licenses.

3-year-old Xander Irvine was killed when a car mounted the pavement in Edinburgh’s Morningside area in June 2020.

The 91-year-old driver died before she could stand trial.
