Farmers blame supermarkets for national egg shortage

The price of feed has doubled and fuel has tripled

Scottish farmers say major supermarkets are to blame for the shortage of eggs on their shelves.

Some say the meagre price they are being offered for goods hasn’t changed in more than a decade, making it impossible to make any profit.

As a result farmers – many also hit by bird flu – are scaling back their flocks and leaving the industry altogether.
