Scotland’s top law officer has instructed the criminal prosecution of the country’s only private jail over alleged failures to manage the medical care of a prisoner with Covid, who died alone in his cell in HMP Addiewell.
The family of Calum Inglis, who have campaigned for an investigation, say the decision gives them hope of justice.
It’s the first prosecution of a private prison and also the first relating to a Covid death in any setting.
