Experts warn Scotland unprepared for synthetic opioid influx

Synthetic opioids have been the main driver of soaring drug deaths in the United States

Drug experts believe Scotland is unprepared for an influx of synthetic opioids, which are more potent than heroin.

Fears are being raised in a week that saw the formal opening of a new multi-pound forensic laboratory and the UK’s largest ever seizure of the super strength street drugs.

The Scottish Government say the facility in Glasgow will help build knowledge of emerging threats as well as provide much needed information to police, procurators and families.
