Experts investigating one of the biggest mass strandings of pilot whales in Scotland are hoping post mortems can provide clues as to why the mammals washed ashore.

Marine rescue teams struggled through the day to save the mammals which became stranded on the Isle of Lewis, but many had to be put down by vets.
