Energy bills set to rise to pay for upgrade to network

Ofgem has given the go-ahead to an initial £28bn of investment to gas and electricity infrastructure.

Households across the country are set to see their energy bills rise in the coming years to pay for an upgrade in the energy network.

Ofgem has given the go-ahead to an initial £28bn of investment to gas and electricity infrastructure across the UK, but it’s estimated it will increase bills by more than £100 annually by 2031.

Meanwhile, the main partner in the proposed carbon capture site in Aberdeenshire has announced it’s putting its stake up for sale, casting doubts over the future of the project.
